Vinyasa Flow Intensive
The course will include sequencing- how to link postures together, while flowing with the breath. We will explore sequences that work specifically towards deepening the asana practice- logical sequences to facilitate deep opening.
We will work to understand and approve our own physical alignment, and on how to adapt and adjust the posture of our students while keeping the flow of the class.
The course includes asana practices suitable for all levels of students- from near beginners to experienced practitioner. We will also look at how to teach various "levels" of students within one class.
Beyond the asana:
We will work on the development of dharana/ concentration through the flowing practice- one of the benefits of this method of yoga is that it enables you to deepen your concentration- and for teachers to lead a really focused practice session.
The course will also explore the concept of prana- class energy & the energetics of the practice.
You will cover practicing & teaching ujjayi breath, bandhas for lightness in the physical body, for core strength and for increased prana through the spine.
You will learn to teach both beginners- with modification to make the practice accessible for them and intermediate students.
We will work on simple phrases and expressions to use in teaching so as to guide your students succinctly through the practice
We will also touch on voicework- relaxing the vocal chords and breath to enhance your voice range and tone
Sequences covered will include:
-Releasing to the forward bend
-Heart opening and backbends
-Working with stability in standing postures
-Incorporating Inversions to the flow
-Shoulders and hips
-Balance and bandha
-We will include some slow, held postures as a way of starting a class with deep release
The teachers Laura Gilmore and Scott Hickman are both experienced practitioners and teachers of Hatha and Ashtanga yoga. They both have their yoga "roots" in Iyengar yoga and enjoy combining attention to correct alignment within flowing and creative sequences of postures.
