postheadericon Pregnancy Yoga

growThese classes provide a nurturing and supportive environment for pregnant women to share and embrace their journey of pregnancy and motherhood. Yoga during this time prevents and remedies common problems you may experience such as backache and restricted breath. You will work according to your own energy levels and need to maintain strength and fitness during pregnancy. The practices allow the body to open gently, to release physical tension and to recognise and work through emotional fears in preparation for birth. Through the practice you will become more in tune with your own body and breath and learn how to use these skills towards a positive, empowering birth experience. The classes inform you about birth- the possibility of a "natural" active birth but also give you coping tools and enhance your sense of "acceptance" in preparation for this journey into the unknown. You will leave each class feeling deeply relaxed and take with you relaxation techniques you can use during your pregnancy, birth and beyond. The sessions provide a space to meet and get to know other women enjoying the same life-changing journey- often the starting place for deep friendships.

Be sure to claim the health in pregnancy grant to use towards your yoga costs! You simply ask the GP/ midwife for the relevant form. You are also entitled to time off work for antenatal classes. For more info see-  http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/HavingABaby/HealthInPregnancy/index.htm

"The pregnancy yoga classes were certainly the best thing that I did for myself whilst pregnant. Not only did the sciatic-type pain that had been dogging me for months disappear, but the warm nurturing at the classes really touched me each week. It was a protected space to slow down and connect with my experience, myself and my baby. I often felt quite close to tears by the end of the classes, having opened up to the daunting and amazing reality that I was pregnant! So thankyou! I'm so glad I stumbled upon your classes, which you, in particular, made so right for me in a weird and wonderful time." Jael

"Thanks for all the fun and support so far, I love your classes, they're the highlight of my week!" Emily

I have SPD can the yoga help?
You will need tell the teacher about the SPD and take the sessions very gently. The teacher will give you different practices to many of the other women- your focus is on keeping the pelvis level and steady and strengthening rather than  stretching.

Will it help me prepare for birth? Yes on both a psychological and physical level the yoga helps women prepare for birth- these classes are specifically designed to support the journey from pregnancy into birth and beyond.

I have had miscarriage(s) before- can I do yoga? Yes the sessions are quite gentle. If you are concerned do mention it to the teacher but nothing you do will put the pregnancy at risk.

When can I start Mum-Baby Yoga- Any time you feel ready, the baby will need to sleep and feed often in the early weeks but the classes are there to support you in the mothering journey and in that way to support the baby, as well as the practices specifically for nurturing the baby.
