Directions
How to find us:
By car:
If you have Sat Nav the studio postcode is BS2 8QW
From the end of the M32 continue onto the A4032 for 1 mile then turn right onto Bond Street (A4044). At the roundabout, take the third exit onto North Street (A38), then turn right onto Upper York Street before turning left onto Backfields Lane.
From the A38 continue down to the junction with Ashley Road, turning left at the traffic lights onto Ashley Road then first right onto Brigstocke Avenue. Then take the fourth left onto Wilder Street, continue to the end and turn right at the stop sign onto Upper York Street. Backfields Lane is second on the right. (Don’t be confused by “Backfields” without the “Lane”- this is a different street).
Parking
There is metered parking on Upper York Street with a maximum 2 hour stay. Please do not park in the spaces along Backfields Lane, unauthorised vehicles in these spaces are clamped and fined. There is some limited free parking on City Road, Wilder Street and Brunswick Street- from which there is a ramped path direct into Backfields Lane. There is also parking in other residential streets of St. Pauls & Montpelier areas- if you have time to explore and walk for 5 min.
By train:
Arrive at Bristol Temple Meads (rather than Bristol Parkway) Railway Station. A taxi to the studio costs £8 approx.
Or take the shuttle bus to the main bus station.
By Bus
Nearest Bus Station is Malborough Street Main Bus Station, Bristol.
Walking from the Bus Station (5 mins):
Enter bus station via glass doors and then turn LEFT. Walk to the end of the station and exit on the RIGHT
Cross over the road and go down a short flight of steps. Walk past some shops to a longer flight of steps overlooking a big roundabout
Go down the steps and turn LEFT into an underpass. Go through the underpass into a small park in the middle of the roundabout
Go straight across the park towards another underpass with the sign “Stokes Croft, St James Barton Car Park”
Go though this next underpass and then LEFT up some steps
Straight ahead is a large building which goes over the road and is numbered “5102”, walk under this building and continue up the road for 2-3 minutes until you reach the second set of traffic lights- turn RIGHT here across City Road and down past the church on Upper York Street, turn immediately left onto Backfields Lane, the studio is on the left.
Walking from the city centre / Cabot Circus (5 mins):
Come out of Cabot Circus between Pret a Manger and House of Fraser. Take the zebra crossing across the main road, turn left and walk along to the traffic lights at Upper York Street (there is a fabric store on the corner). Turn right onto Upper York Street, and Backfields Lane is the first right- a cobbled street on the right directly opposite the Lakota night club. Go down the lane and you will see the BCY sign on the left hand side (up on the building above head height).
Or from Broadmead follow directions for bus station above.
Walking from Montpelier/ St Andrews etc. towards Stokes Croft: Walk down Stokes Croft towards town. Just after Zazus café on the right, turn left at the lights and junction with City Road then immediately cross City Road and turn left down Upper York Street. Backfields Lane is the next left.
