Diploma Level Course
Expand and develop your existing knowledge with highly experienced teachers in a small group setting, leading to the highest possible level of certification by Yoga Alliance (500-hr level). This course supports your personal yoga journey, giving you the opportunity to specialise in yoga methods that particularly appeal to you. On completion of this course you will be able to teach at least 2 major methods of yoga- Hatha yoga, as well as the techniques you have specialised in e.g. pregnancy yoga etc.
This course is composed of:- 3 intensive 3-day study weekends (Friday-Sunday)
- Apprenticeship at BCY – either as a 2 week intensive or over six months
- Minimum TWO intensives in specialist subjects of your choice- additional cost for the courses
- Assistance on one-week retreat with a Bristol City Yoga/Yoga Alliance registered teacher – additional cost for travel, accommodation & food

Course Outline

2010 weekends:
Module 1:
Dates: 7th - 9th May 2010
Subjects:
- Teaching Yoga: Ethics and Lifestyle
- Pranayama
- Yoga Nidra
- Hip opening postures
- Sequencing yoga asanas
- The History and Literature of Yoga- including The Yoga Sutras (chapters 3 & 4), Bhagavad Gita, Dhammapada, Upanishads, The Vedas
Module 2
Dates: 26th - 27th June 2010
Subjects:
- Asana techniques for backbends and inversions
- Anatomy of the spine and common ailments
- Teaching techniques to heal shoulder, neck and backpain
- Overview of the nervous system and the positive effects of a yoga practice
- Deepening awareness of psychological and physiological aspects of breath and the Respiratory System
- The Yoga Sutras (chapters 3 & 4)
Module 3
Dates: 3rd – 4th July 2010
Subjects:
- Asana techniques for pregnancy
- Anatomy and physiology of pregnancy
- Exploration of the physical, mental and emotional needs during pregnancy
- Techniques to incorporate pregnant women into a class
- Post-natal asana practice
Dates: Sept/ Oct tbc
Subjects:
- Setting up and teaching yoga workshops & retreats
- End of course written exam
- Practical teaching assessment
- Review of asana, pranayama and meditation techniques
- Review of teaching methods
- Living Dharma- integrating practice & teaching into life
In addition to the weekend modules you will:
- Complete an apprenticeship at BCY; either as a two week intensive or over six months (included in cost)
- Complete two intensives chosen from the electives below: (separate cost)

Intro to Ayurveda
- Assist and develop a one-week retreat with one of the available senior course instructors. (separate cost). Or if preferred this can be done as a one-week apprenticeship in the UK with specified teacher- shadowing and supporting work at class/ admin etc. - without additional cost.
Certified by Yoga Alliance (500 Hour)
Cost for this part of the course alone £1450, plus intensives & retreat. (Payable as £450 deposit plus 2x £500 installments or a monthly payment of £150) Retreat and intensive payments are made separately at time of booking.
Cost for the complete 500 hr training £2800 payable over 18 months. (£450 deposit, plus x15 monthly payments of £150 & x1 of £100/ OR £450 deposit plus x3 payments of £400). Retreat and intensive payments are made separately at time of booking.
