Emily Hayward

Emily has a lifelong love of dance and movement, having starting dancing at the age of 3. Following several years working in arts management, Emily discovered a passion for teaching whilst volunteering teaching English on a community project in Mexico. After a year and a half of teaching, learning Spanish and finally having the time to rediscover how beneficial regular Pilates and yoga practise was to both her physical and mental well-being, Emily made the decision to return to England and retrain in order to combine this new-found desire to teach with both her passion for movement and her belief that a strong and healthy body promotes a strong and healthy mind.

Focusing on the deep abdominal muscles which support and stabilise the spine, Pilates strengthens, elongates and rebalances the body, bringing it into correct alignment, so that the muscular and skeletal systems can function optimally. Pilates is particularly beneficial for those with back problems, in the rehabilitation and prevention of injury and is a safe form of exercise for conditions such as osteoporosis, arthritis and scoliosis.

Pilates is a holistic form of exercise and classes with Emily focus not only on strengthening the body as a whole, but also on the effect that Pilates can have on the mind, bringing an inner-awareness and sense of well-being to the practitioner. Exercises are mainly based around small controlled movements and the belief that it is better to perform 2 repetitions of an exercise correctly, that 20 repetitions incorrectly. Students will experience increased strength, stability and muscle tone as well as better coordination, balance, improved mind-body awareness and the release of stress and tension.

Emily’s classes create a warm, friendly and relaxed environment where each individual student is supported in their own needs, regardless of age or fitness level.

Emily is accredited with the Pilates Foundation to teach all aspects of Pilates matwork, having completed a comprehensive matwork teacher training course at the Scott Studio under the supervision of master teacher Suzanne Scott. Emily is also trained in pre and postnatal Pilates and is First Aid qualified.

As a member of the Pilates Foundation (www.pilatesfoundation.com) Emily is committed to furthering her education through continuing professional development.
